My Work
My concentration revolves around the theme of discomfort, which demonstrates many of my internal struggles. As technology evolves the levels of physical discomfort declines whilst the levels of emotional and mental discomfort increase. Our world today developed the technology to alter temperature levels, provide effortless access to water, supply efficient transportation, etc. However, as the world shifts to a faster and easier pace, anxieties and emotional discomforts torment the human brain. Throughout this series, I explore the different levels of discomfort that humans experience in the twenty-first century through the usage of common scenarios.
I began with physical discomfort which I’ve often found myself avoiding during general daily interactions. I explored the idea that to diminish a personal pet peeve that normally triggered discomfort, I would create pieces to normalize them. I experimented with different mediums to create artworks that focus on the sensations such as eye tugging, honey on skin, distorted objects, and cigarette smoking. Afterward, I focused on internal struggles which sparked deep discomfort. I created a series of portraits that portray them.

A Sticky Situation
Generally, I intend for my art to bring out basic emotions in people. For this colored pencil drawing, I wanted to display the feeling of discomfort. The sticky substance dripping down the face portray an irritable sensation.
02
Luminance
For this drawing, I endeavored to play with dramatic highlights and colored lighting.

Post Mental Breakdown
As a high school student, there tends to be one common scenario that I encounter on a daily basis. Among all of the gossiping, selfie taking, and makeup applications that occur in the crowded school bathroom, there are often a few students who are experiencing a mental breakdown. The same image was imprinted in my mind so I had to draw it. I played with angles and contracting lighting for this piece.
